Sierra Asia Celebrates Chinese New Year, The Year of the Dog!
When Sierra-Asia was founded in China in 2002, we were small but motivated. We understood that China’s fast-pace growth and development plans called for having boots on the ground. It was true then and it’s true now. Establishing a team of customer-oriented technology experts that exemplify Sierra’s core values of QDPICS™ has been a big win.
Headquartered in Shanghai today, we are a powerful force in the region for flow metering solutions for nearly any gas, liquid and steam application. We offer custom engineering for market needs, go to the field and commission instruments, and have a full calibration and repair facility.
A big part of this success is due to the tenacity and dedication of our local Sierra team currently led by Michael Ma and Dannal Cheng. Under their leadership, Sierra Asia is a virtual beehive of high-energy with flow measurement experts who provide local customer support, application knowledge, and custom engineering to adapt our flow meters to meet specific local needs. They overcome every flow measurement challenge with optimism, diligence, flexibility and pragmatism.
Simply put, they keep the lens focused on what’s important to our customers in the region with an uncompromising focus on QDPICS, just like this great logo celebrating Chinese New Year Spring Festival, the Year of the Dog!
Chinese New Year officially starts today, ushering in Earth Dog Year or Year of the Dog, and we are celebrating with our sister office, Sierra Asia, in Shanghai, China.
This special logo, designed by our Sierra Asia team, incorporates five design elements to capture the essence of the season and wish everyone a Happy New Year. Can you see the year 2018? Let us break it down for you.
Breakdown of the Sierra Holiday Logo
- The dog in traditional Chinese New Year is the China red color.
- The body of the dog evolves into the number “2,” and its tail is the “0” followed by 18 to make up 2018.
- Inside the tail is “Happy New Year” (新年快乐) .
- “福, “pronunciation is “FU, second Tone” which means Happy, but it is upside-down. The “upside-down” Chinese is “倒 DAO, third Tone, ” which has the same pronunciation to “到 DAO, forth tone,” so “福倒, FU DAO” is the same as “福到, FU DAO.” Its full meaning is “happy arrived.” The “福” symbol has stayed the same for over 3,000 years.
- We put the happy symbol “福” in the “8″ rather than the zero, because eight is a very lucky number in China.
We think it’s creative and innovative like our team at Sierra Asia! Let’s wish everyone a Happy Chinese New Year!
